RipIndex History
What is RipIndex?

RipIndex is a data-driven metric that tells you how much value you get back for every dollar you spend opening a Pokemon TCG booster pack. A RipIndex of 1.00 means dollar-for-dollar value. A RipIndex of 0.50 means you expect to recover 50 cents per dollar spent.

No hype, no guesswork — just math applied to live market prices so you can make informed decisions about which packs to open and which to skip.

The Formula
RipIndex = EV / Pack Market Price

Expected Value (EV) accounts for every card that can come out of a pack — commons, uncommons, rares, holos, reverse holos, Illustration Rares, Special Illustration Rares, Pokeball and Masterball patterns, special stamp cards, special energies, and god pack probability where applicable. Each card's current market price is weighted by its pull rate to calculate its contribution to a single pack's expected value.

Pack market price is the live price you'd pay on TCGPlayer today — not MSRP.

What Does Each Metric Mean?
  • RipIndex — EV divided by pack price. Closer to 1.00 = better value.
  • Total EV — The average dollar value of cards you can expect from one pack, based on current market prices and confirmed pull rates.
  • Pack Price — Live TCGPlayer market price.
  • Chance to Pull > Pack Price — The probability that at least one card in your pack is worth more than what you paid for it.
  • RI > 1.0 Price — The pack price at which this set would become dollar-for-dollar value or better. If a pack is selling below this number, it's worth opening.
  • God Pack EV — Included in Total EV for sets with confirmed god packs. Represents the probability-weighted value of pulling an all-holo pack.
